METHODOLOGY

The works presented here are excerpts from a larger collection of pieces, mostly one-offs or limited editions. For the most part these have been hand made directly, that is to say, in an immediate manner devoid of prior design process. In some instances, initial sketches were used as an idea generation tool.

The production of these works have been almost entirely proactive and unsolicited. Mostly devoid of clients or commissions, the immediacy and autonomy of creation has been allowed to prevail.

The works are purely a manifestation of the desire to make, the call to craftsmanship, and the affinity with material and process.

The visual language is informed by a myriad of disciplines and realms spanning architecture, contemporary product design, yacht and automotive design, abstract art and nature. It is also rooted within the context of having grown up in a multicultural sub-tropical city on the east coast of South Africa.

CONTEMPORARY JEWELLERY

Reappraising the way that we adorn ourselves - single and limited edition hand tooled objects for wear exquisitely crafted from non precious and contemporary materials. A range of architectural and miniature sculptural formats that facilitate personal differentiation, and present an alternative to the accepted traditional and ostentatious approach to jewellery.

WINDOW DISPLAYS

A few examples of the infinite possibilities that working in paper allows - hat and bag formats rendered in bold and sculptural compositions to attract attention within a retail environment and leverage customer interest.

OBJECTS

Single edition, hand tooled, sushi-sized objects that exist somewhere in the realm between jewellery, sculpture, netsuke and contemporary product design. Bite sized visual poems presented in bespoke packaging that function simultaneously as `sculpture seeds` off which larger pieces may be commissioned on the one hand, and by virtue of a rare-earth locator magnet system, may be worn on a garment as jewellery on the other.

OBJECT PACKAGING

The extruded aluminium packaging solution doubles up as the object plinth - the objects are secured within the packaging and are subsequently relocated onto the top surface for display purposes through the use of a rare earth magnet. Each object has a rare earth magnet embedded in it's interior to facilitate this location system. The branded outer sleeve completes the packaging envelope.

SCULPTURE

Purely abstract in their rendition, a collection of untitled sculptural works exploring trans-disciplinary formal design languages across industrial design, naval architecture, automotive styling and the human form.

Realised in a scale suitable for tabletop or plinth presentation, this series of works are intended for placement within the contemporary interior.
